BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Andrea Surovek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering where she has been on faculty since 2003. She received her PhD from Georgia Tech in 2001, and received her BSCE, BA and MSCE degrees from Purdue University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and South Dakota.

Dr. Surovek is the chair of the Technical Administrative Committee on Metals for ASCE/SEI where she previously served as the Chair of the Structural Members Committee. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC), and serves on Task Committee 3, Loads, Analysis and Systems, for the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Structural Engineering and recently served as a guest editor for the September 2011 issue commemorating 10 years of research since 9/11. She is the recipient of the ASEE Beer and Johnston Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award, the SDSM&T Bernard Ennenga Award for Excellence in Teaching the SSRC Vinnakota Award for best student paper and the ASEE Seeley Fellowship.
